March 2024 Health Awareness Initiatives

National Health Observances (NHOs) are special days, weeks, or months dedicated to raising awareness about important health topics.

Each month, various health initiatives are promoted to increase awareness of the cause and improve health across the country.

The health awareness initiatives in March 2024 include, but are not limited to:

  • National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month: Colorectal cancer is the second deadliest cancer in the United States. Yet, it is one of the few cancers that is preventable thanks to screening. One in 24 people will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime and the Colorectal Cancer Alliance is here to raise awareness.
  • Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month: Each March, the community calls attention to inheritable blood and bleeding disorders. This initiative lets patients and their families with hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, rare factor disorders, and more, share their stories and successes via the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation.
  • National Kidney Month: Did you know one in seven Americans are impacted by kidney disease? National Kidney Month is an opportunity to raise awareness and stress the importance of taking action to protect and improve kidney health.
  • National MS Education and Awareness Month: Launched in 2003, this initiative is a nationwide effort by MS Focus: the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and affiliated groups to raise the public’s awareness of multiple sclerosis. The goals are to promote an understanding of the scope of the disease, and to assist those with MS in making educated decisions about their healthcare.
  • National Nutrition Month: A nutrition education and information campaign sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign is designed to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical habits.

Please keep in mind that these initiatives may vary from year to year, and new observances may be added.
